美国康乃尔大学图书馆正在进行一项四年计划——把最近200年以来世界各国的农业科学核心文献存入40张5英寸的密集光盘,提供给第三世界国家。计划的发起人和主持人是康乃尔大学Mann图书馆馆长丁.奥尔森,康乃尔大学共有16个图书馆,其中最大的是Mann馆,也是美国大学中最大的农业图书馆,共有藏书75万册,工作人员65人,另有学生工200人,因此以这个馆的馆藏作为本计划的基本文献源。奥尔森原在美国国立农业图书馆负责第三世界问题的咨询工作,七年前就到Mann馆任馆长。这项计划的目的是使第三世界国家的农业能有明显的增产效果。
A four-year plan is under way at the Cornell University Library in the United States to deposit 40 core 5-inch compact discs from the world’s agricultural science core literature for the last 200 years to Third World countries.
