湘江战役的失败是中央红军长征途中非常重要的转折点,事实上也是导致后来黎平会议、遵义会议召开的重要诱因。从性质上而言,它是左倾错误路线领导下的错误实践的一个高峰,对红军产生了极大的震撼。作为思想解放导火索,湘江战役以残酷的牺牲唤醒了红军广大指战员,使党内充分认识到了毛泽东的正确从而为结束“左”倾错误在中央的领导创造了条件。时值长征胜利八十周年,客观看待湘江战役对于红军长征的影响对于今天有着重要的意义。
