孝庄太后(1613—1687)为清太宗皇太极的妃子,名布木布泰,博尔济特氏,蒙古科尔沁贝勒寨桑女,天命十年(1625)二月嫁皇太极,崇德元年(1636)被封为庄妃,生一子、三女。于崇德八年皇太极死后,先后培育、辅佐儿孙两代幼年皇帝,对清朝统一多民族国家的巩固和发展作出了卓越的贡献。她是一位杰出的政治家,在不少文章和书籍中已详细介绍有关她的政治活动,本文着重论述孝庄太后下令翻译蒙文佛经以及对清代佛教文
