对于大多数的人类学家来讲,人类社会具有从政治权力微弱的原始社会即自然社会,向政治权力强大的先进社会——国家社会发展的趋势。基于生存的适应性,人们天然地具有服从的需要。然而,通过对南美洲中部瓜拉奇人部落的田野调查,法国人类学家、人种学家皮埃尔·克拉斯特认为,权力是复杂的概念,由于现实中仍有许多社会排斥国家结构,这就使得权力在这些社会中有了一些特别的表现。
For most anthropologists, human society has a tendency to develop from a primitive society with weak political power, that is, a natural society, to an advanced society with a strong political power - the national society.
