过去几年，因价格高昂，光盘刻录机的用户群一直集中在行业用户里，ＤＩＹ市场对其是敬而远之。ＣＤ- ＲＷ强大的兼容性是其他存储设备无法比拟的，且它的易用性和实用性已被众多ＤＩＹ爱好者接受，但困扰ＣＤ- ＲＷ的流行的最根本问题在于价格。 进入２００１年，众多厂家对ＣＤ—ＲＷ市场前景大为看好，纷纷推出了自有品牌的 Ｃ Ｄ—ＲＷ刻录机，不少厂商纷纷把眼光投向了ＤＩＹ市场，力图在平民市场领域打开销路。刺激市场最有效也最简单的方法还是下调价格，于是从３月份起，各品牌的刻录机降价声不绝于耳，极大刺激了ＤＩＹ市场对ＣＤ—ＲＷ的需求。 ８倍速刻写的产品为目前市场上的主流产品，一般价格多在１０００－１２００之间。１２倍速机器因为从性能角度看还算是高速高性能产品，且其价格多在１４００元以上，所以目前暂时还不会迅速普及一般市场
