Objective: To explore the method of measuring the radii of the scapula by multislice spiral CT (MSCT) postprocessing. Methods: Fifty adult scapular specimens and 50 wet specimens of adult shoulder sclerosis were collected and scanned with a 16-slice spiral CT scanner. Thick axial multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) and thin multiplanar reconstruction were performed to measure the radius of curvature of the scapula , For statistical analysis. Results: There was no significant difference (P> 0.05) between the MPR of the glenoid anterior and posterior curvature and the MPR of the thin layer measured by the paired t test. There was a significant difference between the MPR of the glenoid upper and lower curvature radii and the paired t test (P <0.001). There was a significant difference (P <0.001) between MPR of the anterior and posterior radius of curvature and the independent sample t-test of the MPR of the thin-layer MPR, and the thickness of the MPR of the scapula and the wet specimen (4.14 ± 1.01) cm, (5.31 ± 1.17) cm, MPR measurements of thin layer (4.05 ± 1.04) cm and (5.29 ± 1.27) cm, thick MPR measurements of the upper and lower curvature radius of scapula, 4.82 ± 0.98) cm, thin-layer MPR measurements (3.72 ± 0.59) cm, (4.37 ± 0.70) cm. CONCLUSIONS: Multi-slice spiral CT is a simpler and faster method to measure the radius of curvature of the scapula. The curvature radius of the scapula dry and wet specimens is quite different. The anatomic features should be considered in the design of the shoulder joint prosthesis.
