据有关部门统计,北京有百年以上的大树50余种42084株,其中300年以上树龄的古树5230株。北京城的潭柘寺里,有植于辽代的银杏树。它高达30多米,树围6—7米,绿荫如盖,蔚为壮观。清高宗封它为“帝王树”。京郊戒台寺有一古油松,树旁立有乾隆皇帝题写的石碑。碑文曰:“老干棱棱挺百尺,缘何枝摇本身随。咄则谁为挚共领,牵动万丝因一枝。” 陕西桥山黄帝陵周围古柏成林,郁郁苍苍,气势非凡。有株古柏树高19米,围粗10米,相传是5000多年前轩辕黄帝栽种的。
