Although cell survival is clearly critical during organ preservation, few are aware of the biochemical changes that cause death or loss of function in ischemic cells. In previous studies, two important biochemical markers that could predict cellular damage during ischemia have been found, namely, reduced adenosine levels and DNA damage. It is confirmed that the total cellular nucleotide is a better indicator of cellular energy status than ATP levels and reflects the ability of cells to recover after ischemic damage. The kidneys have their DNA damaged during both hot and cold ischemia and liver during hemorrhagic shock, and the degree of DNA damage is proportional to the extent of ischemic damage. this
