Preface We propose a technique called MVA (migration velocity tomography) that can be used to get an accurate velocity model in prestack depth migration. As a direct inversion method, MVA chromatography takes much less time to obtain an accurate velocity model than the iterative migration method. In addition, as a tomography technique that uses a ray path, it can solve complex velocity models, while problems with other methods such as focus analysis may present problems. MVA chromatography is similar to that of reflection tomography, which uses a ray path for matrix inversion to solve the migration velocity model (macro model). However, the difference with reflectance tomography is that it allows the CRP gathers (ie, the common reflection gathers, sometimes called coherent pictures)
