此次盛会,“对于增进世界对发展图书馆事业的共识、加快图书馆建设的步伐、提高图书馆为经济发展的水平、加强国际交流与合作,具有重大而深远的意义。”我国政府十分重视,李鹏总理亲自参加了大会开幕式并讲了话,大会执行主席、文化部长刘忠德以“国际图联大会给中国带来声誉”为题答记者问,人民日报、光明日报先后发表了社论,各家电视台也都作了报导。现在大会闭幕了,作为图书馆工作者应该认真学习大会文件,“进一步认清形势、明确目标、提高自身的使命感和责任感,加强图书馆的事业建设、电子化建设、队伍建设和信息开发服务”。
