Going to a friend’s house is very exciting. You may spend time with a friend and get to see where he lives. So remember to be polite.
  When to arrive
The first thing to remember is that when a friend invites you over, you need to arrive on time. If your friend tells you to come “around 3:00”, that means you can turn up a little bit after 3:00. But usually it is a good idea to arrive at the right time.
  What to bring
Often it is also nice to bring something to your friend’s house. This could be a box of chocolates for you to share. Or maybe a movie that you can watch together. You can also bring some flowers. A little gift is a nice way to show your friend that you are excited to be at his or her house.
  How to greet
When you visit your friend’s house, you may also meet his/her parents. You should tell them who you are and they may tell you their names. As a child, I went to visit my friend Paul. I called his parents by their first names John and Mary. But now I know it is more polite to call them Mr and Mrs Smith. This will show them more respect (尊重) and then they may tell you to call them by their first names. Another way to show respect is to call them madam or sir. It is a cool thing to visit a friend’s house. Be polite to your friend and your friend’s parents, and you will be invited again.
  ( ) 6. When you are invited to a friend’s house, it’s best to arrive ___ .
  A. on time B. 10 minutes earlier
  C. a few minutes later D. as early as possible
( ) 7. When you visit your friend at home, it’s good for you to ___ .
  A. stay for supper
  B. call him/her first
  C. bring a small gift
  D. help him/her with the housework
( ) 8. When you see the parents of your friends in their houses, you should ___ .
  A. keep quiet
  B. make them happy
  C. introduce yourself first
  D. tell them why you are there
( ) 9. A good way to show your respect to your friend’s parents is to call them ___ .
  A. madam or sir B. father and mother
  C. by their first names D. by their second names
  ( ) 10. The passage mainly tells us ___ .
  A. when to get to your friend’s house
  B. what to bring to your friend
  C. how to be a good visitor
  D. how to greet people
  根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(A)误(B)。
Kong Rong was a famous writer during the Han Dynasty (汉朝). He was considerate(替人着想的) when he was only four.
Kong had five elder brothers and a younger brother. One day, their father bought lots of pears. Some of the pears were big and looked good. Some were small and didn’t look so good. The boys were happy and began to choose some. Kong chose the smallest one. Kong’s father found this strange and asked, “Why not choose a bigger one, my son?” Kong answered, “I am younger. My elder brothers are older and eat more. They should take the bigger ones.”
“But you have a younger brother. He should take the smallest one!”
“He is younger and needs more nutrition (营养). He should get a bigger one, too.”
Kong’s father was very happy that Kong could be so considerate. He didn’t think of what he himself wanted. He thought of what others wanted first.
