【总编前言】今年4月上旬,我国著名的刑事诉讼法和人权法专家、上海交通大学法学院的周伟教授和来自美国纽约大学的虞平教授与我一道,就组织一次有全国性影响的学术研讨活动一事形成了共识,这次旨在总结自1996年刑诉法改革以来的新鲜经验并推动刑诉法再次修改的研讨。但令我们极其哀痛的是,周伟教授不幸于2008年4月14日因病遽然与我们永别,时年仅55岁。周伟教授生于南京,是我国恢复高考后早期考上大学的幸运者之一。他早年怀着在中国实现法治和人权的梦想,先后就读于吉林大学和香港大学,获得法学硕士学位和人权法博士学位。周伟学成后先在汕头大学法学院、后在上海交通大学法学院担任教授和重要领导职务,为两校法学教育事业的创立和发展作出过重要贡献,他也曾应约为本刊撰稿、在本刊发表他卓越的法学见解。
