在藏缅语内部,好些语言或方言的辅音系统中存在一套与m、n、?、?、l相对立的鼻音和边音,至今研究者们毫无例外地把这套音记录成?、?、?、?、1、(?),称之为清化鼻音和清化边音。清化鼻音、边音这一概念所反映的是一种动态变化,传递给人们这样一个信息:浊音→清化。然而,结合具体的语言现实来看,其历史来源以及发展趋势正好与此背道而驰。正是这一矛盾现象引起了笔者对这套音进行进一步研究的兴趣。本文拟对这套音的来源谈点不很
