社会发展是以物质生产实践为深刻基础的社会有机体由低级向高级演进的过程。由于人的实践活动既受客观的、历史的诸种条件的制约 ,又受主体本身的需求结构、价值观念的导引 ,参与社会发展进程的各种因素之间存在着复杂的相互作用关系 ,因而社会发展的图式不是线性的而是非线性的 ,社会历史的必然性不是预成的 ,而是在人类合目的性与合规律性的实践活动中生成和展现的 ,社会发展是客观规律与主体选择、一元与多线、共性与个性的统一。指出和肯定这一点 ,对于现时代处于世界历史和全球化背景下的各个国家和民族在尊重客观条件和历史必然性的前提下 ,发挥主体能动性和主体选择能力 ,选择正确的社会发展路向 ,是至关重要的。
