Australia is a country rich in natural resources. Its economy relies mainly on the development and utilization of natural resources. The weakness of the country is the small population and the narrow domestic market. Although rich in resources, it is more dependent on the international market. Moreover, most of Australia has traditionally relied on resource industries to meet its import and export needs. Most of its exports are low value-added primary products. In recent years, many companies in the United States, Japan and Europe have invested heavily in research and development and are keen to open up overseas markets, resulting in fierce competition in the international market. Thus plunging Australia into an economic downturn in falling prices of products and a reduction in the volume of trade exports. In order to prosper and develop, Australia must raise the international competition in its own industries, especially in the manufacturing and processing industries
