中国人的自称是“华”,外国人却自古称我们中国为“China”。由于“China”这一名称在全世界影响巨大,作为一个中国人,就必需懂得“China”的真实含义,这是关系到为我们的国家和民族“正本清源”的大事,特别是在有一段日子里,日本军国主义曾把“支那”( China的译名之一)一词,当作敌视中国的蔑称,我们更不能不认真对待!外国人为什么要称中国为“China”呢?林河先生认为前人的好些解释都不够准确,他对中国为什么叫“China”的问题,阐述了自己的见解。
