约翰·厄普代克是美国当代文坛最有影响力的作家之一,他的代表作“兔子四部曲”的前二部分别为《兔子,跑吧》和《兔子归来》,可谓各有千秋。本文力图聚焦在对两部作品中的主要人物哈利和简妮丝的“逃跑”分析,主要就其逃跑的原因,逃跑背后的心路历程,逃跑的不同意义等三方面进行阐释,以期能对他们的逃跑做出较为清晰的分析和评判,从而挖掘二十世纪五六十年代美国人们普遍面临的生存困境。
John Updike is one of the most influential writers in the contemporary American literary world. His first two books, “Bunny, Running,” and “The Return of the Rabbit,” can be said to have many advantages. This article tries to focus on the analysis of the “escape” of the main characters in the two works, mainly on the reasons of their escape, the mentality of escape and the different meaning of escape in order to Make a relatively clear analysis and judgment on their escape, and find out the common predicament faced by the Americans in the 1950s and 1960s.
