目前世界各国引种较多的桉树有柳叶桉、柠檬桉,赤桉,兰桉。雷州林业局大面积种植的隆缘桉、柠檬桉、杂种桉中,柠檬桉在土层深厚较肥沃的土地生长量、亩蓄积、出材率和中间收入最大。它是雷州林业局的当家树种,很有发展前途。为了提供优良品种用于造林,提高造林质量和经济收益。热林所、雷州林业局、林科所、龙门林场的技术人员于1976年5月份在龙门林场进行柠檬桉优树初选探讨。龙门林场于1977年8月,局、林科所和龙门场于1978年8月继续进行初选。1979年3月复选出优树七株。
