Most recently, the U.S. Department of Defense has developed the Joint IP Modem (JIPM) standard to regulate very small aperture terminal (VSAT) modems in a hub-to-spoke radiating topological IP satellite communications network. The joint IP modem will provide an alternative to the currently deployed warfighter who is capable of meeting ongoing operational needs and can support “long-term freedom” and “Iraqi Freedom” military operations
