根据全国烤烟生产“计划种植、主攻质量、优质适产”的指导方针,河南省从1981年开始引进试种 NC 89和 G—140。试种成功后,进行了示范、推广,种植面积不断扩大。1985年许昌烟区种植 NC89和 G—14076万亩,占植烟面积的85%。1986年,许昌、平顶山、漯河、南阳、周口、驻马店、豫西等烟区 NC 89和 G—140的推广面积达187.1万亩,良种面积占95%以上,彻底改变了河南省烤烟品种多、乱、杂的状态,实现了烤烟良种化。促进了烟叶质量的提高。
