“文化大革命”中的10年,外国文学的出版可以说是一大禁区,外国文学读物几乎绝迹,就连曾经被共青团员们作为人生必读书的《钢铁是怎样炼成的》、《卓娅和舒拉的故事》,也被冠以种种罪名扫出了书店的图书馆。面对浩如烟海的世界文学宝库,中国的出版界和中国的读者都丧失了“选择”的权利。党的十一届三中全会,振兴了外国文学出版事业,10年来,我国的外国文学出版经历了恢复、调整和发展的过程,取得了显著的成绩。就其数量,10年来共翻译出版了外国文学读物6000余件,另外还出版了33种1200多期外国文学期刊,登载译作数以千计。就其内容,涉及到诗歌、散文、小说、戏剧、文艺理论等各个方面。就其规模,有像“外国文学名著丛书”、“马克思主义文艺理论丛书”等国家重点工程;也有像“二十世纪外国文学丛书”、“当代外国文学丛书”等一批地方出版社的配套工程;同时还有像《莎士比亚全集》、《巴尔扎克全集》、《高尔基文集》、《海明威文集》等等一批世界大文豪的全集、文集。就其覆盖面,我们翻译出

In its quantity, over 6,000 pieces of foreign literary books have been translated and published over the past 10 years, and more than 1,200 foreign literary journals have been published in more than 1,200 languages. In its content, it relates to all aspects of poetry, prose, fiction, drama, literary theory and so on. In terms of its scale, there are some national key projects such as “Series of Foreign Literary Books” and “Series of Marxist Literary Theories,” as well as a batch of local publishing houses such as “Series of Foreign Literature in the Twentieth Century” and “Series of Contemporary Foreign Literature” Works; at the same time, there is a collection of works such as The Complete Works of Shakespeare, The Complete Works of Balzac, The Gorky Works, The Hemingway Collection, etc. In terms of coverage, we translate it
