朱迪思·布坎南教授是英国约克大学英文与比较文学系教授,当代著名莎士比亚戏剧舞台表演评论家,影视文学评论家,现任约克大学人文中心主任,主要研究莎剧舞台表演史、莎剧影视改编等,著有《沉默的莎士比亚》(2004)、《银幕上的莎士比亚》(2005)、《默片时代的莎士比亚:绝妙的哑语》(2007)等专著。2014年,笔者在英国约克大学访学期间对布坎南教授进行了专访。在访谈中,布坎南教授阐释了莎士比亚电影研究的方法及默片时代莎剧电影改编的意义。通过分析《哈姆雷特》等几部莎剧改编的电影,她强调莎剧是全世界共享的文化传统和宝贵财富,莎剧电影凸显了莎剧的经典性与时代性。她还指出在全球化语境下莎剧电影改编的重要意义和前景,同时充分肯定了中国目前在莎士比亚电影改编方面取得的成就。
Professor Judith Buchanan is a professor of English and Comparative Literature at York University in the United Kingdom. He is a famous contemporary Shakespeare theater stage critic and film critic, and is currently director of Humanities Center at York University. He focuses on the history of Shakespeare stage performances, the adaptation of Shakespeare’s films and television programs Et al., And other monographs such as Silent Shakespeare (2004), Shakespeare on Screen (2005) and Shakespeare in The Silent Egg Age (2007). In 2014, I conducted an interview with Professor Buchanan during my visit to York University. During the interview, Prof. Buchanan explained the method of Shakespearean movie research and the significance of adaptation of Shakespearean films in the silent film era. By analyzing films such as Hamlet and several Shakespearean adaptations, she emphasizes that Shakespeare is a cultural tradition and treasure shared by all over the world. Shakespearean films emphasize the classicness and the epoch of Shakespearean plays. She also pointed out the significance and prospect of the adaptation of Shakespearean films in the context of globalization while fully affirming the achievements China has made in the adaptation of Shakespearean films.
