Research on the characteristics of new rice varieties resistant to BPH has been listed as an important part of the national key project of breeding new rice varieties in the Eighth Five-Year Plan. A total of 574 new rice varieties (lines) were provided by member units of the National Rice Breeding Collaborative Group from 1992 to 1994, including 249 indica varieties, 180 japonica waxy varieties and 145 hybrid rice varieties.
