《咫闻录》是继《聊斋志异》、《阅微草堂笔记》之后的重要文言小说集。它在题材方面虽多吸收借鉴甚至刻意模仿前代文言小说,却能踵事增华,推陈出新,与前代同类题材在立意上有高下之分,在意境上有狭阔之别。在艺术上,虽刻意追踪“阅微”体尚质黜华、简约凝练的风格,但又能融通众家之长而独树一帜,成为清代中后期文言小说承上启下之作。
“Stroke Record” is a collection of important classical novels after “Liao Zhai Zhi Yi” and “Yue Wei Cottage Notes”. Although it absorbs or even imitates the previous-generation classical novels in the subject matter, it can not only emphasize and innovate, but also have the similarities and differences in the conception of the same type of theme in the previous generation. In art, though it traced the style of “subtle Chinese” and its simple and concise style, it has become a unique style that integrates the strengths of all the people and becomes the poem of classical Chinese novels in the middle and late Qing Dynasty.
