This article brings together the microscopic observations of high alumina bricks after the use of some electric furnace roofs since 1957. The bricks are mainly eroded by MgO, CaO and iron oxides, and MgO is derived from the refractories of magnesia and magnesia at high temperatures Erosion and volatilization, X-ray and microscopic analysis confirmed the presence of granular and acicular periclase crystals in some areas of the erosion zone, and in the presence of iron oxides, they were essentially adsorbed on the surface of the erosion zone to form two spinel solid solutions [ (MF ’) A and (F’M) F] mineral assemblages in the absence of iron oxides, producing pure MA in the slag zone, and the other equilibrium phases are calcium and forsterite and anorthite With the inner layer, the reaction product is calcium hexaluminate and calcareous yellow feldspar.
