说起工业标准服务器的组件,人们往往首先想到的是处理器、内存和外存等,芯片组一般不会受到特别关注。其实,芯片组对于整个系统的性能起着举足轻重的作用。在服务器中,它负责将数据从处理器传送到其他部件,所以也称为总线。可以说,芯片组为整个服务器系统中数据的流动提供了高速公路网。如果系统的数据传输不够通畅,再多再快的处理器,再高容量的内存,都不能充分发挥其作用,就全成了摆设,和采用普通的器件没有多大区别。芯片组如此关键,因此许多厂商纷纷投入力量研发,广大用户更需要给予关注。本文讨论目前工业标准服务器中主要应用的芯片组。
