A standard step for any analysis of pressure gauges and ammeters used in the ocean is to distinguish between tidal and non-tidal components in the signal. The tidal signal can either be removed or its useful features described for further analysis. Although tidal signals can be removed using standard high-pass or band-pass filtering techniques, their relative certainty and large amplitude make the effects of some special techniques even more pronounced. In classical harmonic analysis, the tidal signal is modeled as the sum of finite-item sinusoids when the specific frequency is related to the astronomical parameters. A program was written in MATLAB to: (a) perform classic harmonic analysis on a period of about one year or less, (b) use node corrections to illustrate (some) of the undecomposed components, (c) calculate the analyzed components Confidence intervals.
