口述史是历史学的一门新兴学科。它以口述史料为依托，真实反映事件亲历者真实感情而有别于以往文献史料，有着弥补正史史料不足的优点，因此近来倍受推崇。而叙事民歌也具有口述史料的特点，是一种特殊的口述史料。文章以土尔扈特部西迁、东归过程中所产生的叙事民歌来探讨土尔扈特人这段不同寻常的历史进程。
