This article maintains that there are two clear shortcomings inthe definition of the shipper and other related articles concerning theshipper in the Chinese Maritime Code: (a) who is the real shlpperthat should bear the related rights and responsibilities in every voy-age has to be considered; (b) the rights and responsibilities of thetwo kinds of shipper fo1d together, which would cause more dls-putes between the parties concerned, and would cause difficulties injudgement. So, this article makes the concrete suggestions on a-mendments and improvements to the definition of the shipper andthe re1ated articles concerning the shipper in Chinese MaritimeCode
