“扬州八怪”是指清代中期活跃于扬州画坛的一批画家。他们大多出生在贫困的家庭之中,经历了风风雨雨,后以卖画维持生活。他们了解人民生活的疾苦,明白世间的艰辛,因此扬州八怪的作品中都有着深刻的思想内容。他们在艺术上都重视发挥自我的个性,因此作品的笔墨语言寓意深刻,耐人寻味,有着清新狂放艺术格调。他们的画风张扬个性,世人称之为“怪”。
“Yangzhou Bazai ” refers to a group of painters who were active in Yangzhou painting circles in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Most of them were born in poor families, experienced ups and downs, then sell paintings to maintain their lives.
