A new orally active non-glycosidic,non-adrenergic cardiotonicagent,2-[(2-methoxy-4-methylsulfinyl)phenyl]-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine(AR-L115BS)has been synthesized.The two key interme-diates,2,3-diaminopyridine and 2-methoxy-4-methyl-mercaptoben-zoic acid were prepared according to the routes submitted by Foxand Zipp respectively.The approaches were improved to adaptlarge scale laboratory preparation.The structure of the end productwas proved by elemental analysis,mass spectra,~1H nuclear magneticresonance spectra and infrared spectra.
