书痴的日子是在书斋里打发的。打开书橱,书页送香,伫立橱前,随手拿一册在手,看那设计精美的封面及插页,读那读过多遍仍百看不厌的精彩文字,从文字中想象作者的音容笑貌,真是乐在其中。书痴爱书,恐怕只有嗜酒者一杯在手可相比较,我不喝酒不嗜烟,酒瘾烟瘾统统化为了书瘾,只要时时有新书可读,便觉时时新鲜充实。记得1986年我在四川大学进修时,见到导师带的一本夏志清的《中国现代小说史》(台湾版),真巴不得化作隐身人抢去先睹为快,先生说他不外借,我也不好意思张口。后来我听一位嗜酒者谈到他见别人喝酒,喉间便痒得难受,他这话倒使我想我上面说的一幕,便不由地对他同情万分。终于我托我的亲戚从台湾买来了《中国现代小说史》、
