近年来,关于大汉王朝、汉文化、汉高祖刘邦等话题引起社会人们广泛的热议。但是,令人担心和困惑的是,其中许多文化人对刘邦之平民经历的刻画描述,竟不负责任地将之定位在“流氓”及“乡间泼皮”之列。影响最大者,是河南大学文学院王立群教授及厦门大学文学院易中天教授撰文,在国内重要传媒,包括中央电视台上到处宣称,平民刘邦是“流氓”和“泼皮”“好说瞎话”“不读书”等。且看他们是如何渲染的:
