The overall level of economic development compared with the GDP gap widened from 56.2 billion yuan in 2002 to 102.17 billion yuan. In 2003, the GDP of Qingdao amounted to 178.030 billion yuan and that of Suzhou 280.2 billion yuan, with the ratio of the two cities being 1: 1. 57. The ratio in 2002 was 1: 1.37, up by 45.97 billion yuan from the same period of last year. The growth rates were 15.9% and 18% respectively, from 1.4 percentage points leading Qingdao in 2001 to 0.1 percentage point higher in Qingdao in 2002 and 2.1 percentage points higher in Qingdao being overtaken by Suzhou in 2003. In 2003, per capita GDP of Qingdao was 24,790 yuan according to the number of household registrations, 47,700 yuan in Suzhou and 1.9 times that of Suzhou in Qingdao. Comparison of Industrial Structure In terms of the three industrial structures, in 2003, the added value of primary, secondary and tertiary products in Qingdao reached 14.75 billion yuan, 93.71 billion yuan and 69.57 billion yuan respectively, up 2.5%, 20.7% and 13.1% over the same period of last year respectively. The proportion of the three industrial structures The relationship was adjusted to 8.3: 52.6: 39.1 from 9.6: 50.4:40 in the previous year. The output value of primary, secondary and tertiary products in Suzhou reached 7.9 billion yuan, 176.8 billion yuan and 95.5 billion yuan respectively, up 0.5%, 21.3% and 14.8 respectively %, The ratio of the three industrial structures was adjusted to 2.8: 63.1: 34.1 from 4.5: 58.2: 37.3 in the previous year. The proportion of primary industry in Qingdao is relatively high, with only 2.8% in Suzhou and 8.3% in Qingdao, which is 5.5% higher than that in Suzhou. The proportion of Suzhou’s secondary industry is obviously higher than that of Qingdao and that of Qingdao is 10.5% lower than that of Suzhou. Data show that Qingdao two or three times more balanced industrial development, Suzhou is mainly based on two products. Suzhou’s industrial added value accounted for more than 50% of the city’s total GDP for three consecutive years, up 56.5% in 2003, 46.4% in Qingdao and 10.1% lower than in Suzhou.
