The ancient city of Yazd in the north-central part of Iran is located in the depths of the Gobi, on the edge of the desert. It is an important post on the Silk Road. It is also the center of worship in Iran. The Millennium Torch still burns in front of the Sphinx of the eagle in its wings today. The ancient city has not experienced much war and natural disasters for more than a thousand years, and the ruins of ancient buildings are well preserved. There are almost no high-rise buildings in the city, and many residents still live in ancient dwellings.
