我国红外物理和技术科学的奠基者,高压物理研究的开创者,半导体光电器件研究的开拓者,中国科学院院士,中国科学院上海技术物理研究所前所长汤定元先生,长期从事固体物理、半导体光电子学以及红外物理和技术的研究,为发展我国的半导体光电子科学,特别是红外光电子器件作出了卓著的贡献。今年5月12日是汤定元先生80岁生日,中国科学院上海技术物理研究所举行了简朴隆重具有浓郁学术气氛的“面向新世纪的红外物理与技术——暨庆贺汤定元院士80寿辰”报告会。国家科学技术部部长朱丽兰、中国科学院院长路甬祥发来贺信,路甬祥院长并附亲笔题词:“贡献毕生智慧,创新红外科技。”
