Most of the zinc belts in the world today are produced using the Hazelett double-belt caster. So far, 10 such machines have been operating around the world and one is being assembled for the People’s Republic of China. The caster was first patented in 1947 and was originally developed for casting aluminum and copper alloy strips. In the early 1960s, the design was promoted for zinc tape casting and the old production mode, which was first cast into ingots and then rolled, was transformed into a twin-belt continuous casting and rolling line on-line with the rolling in 10 years . In the casting process, two parallel moving water-cooled metal belts are used as the main profile, and together with the two side-stop chains, the two metal belts form a four-face mold which is movable to continuously cast the belt Material or bar. This article will deal with some of the origins of this design, as well as the latest technology for this efficient belt casting process.
