豫剧“五大名旦”之一崔兰田,一生演过许多剧目,但真正能代表她演出水平、在观众中影响最大的剧目,莫过于人们常说的崔派“四大悲剧”。这“四大悲剧”具体说来,指的是《桃花庵》、《三上轿》、《秦香莲》和《卖苗郎》。应该说明,崔派的这“四大悲剧”,并非豫剧独有,许多剧种都有演出,特别是《秦香莲》,几乎可以说无剧种不演。即以豫剧内部来说,也不仅是崔兰田独演这些剧目,其他名家、流派,也有很成功的演出。但这“四大悲剧”对于崔兰田来说,确实非同一般,具有特殊的缘份,倾注了她一生的心血和感情。 1937年,崔兰田入太乙班学戏,学的第一出戏即是《秦香莲·杀庙》,她扮演韩琪,并在3个月后登台演出此剧。后来此剧成为她最常演剧目,并改生行为旦行,饰演该剧中的秦香莲。
