This article reviews the history of the library and the development of charitable giving in the same period and reviews the development and growth of the fund raising in the United States. The role played by fundraising in fulfilling the mission of the library and its contribution to management goals are analyzed. The authors conclude that fundraising will play a decisive role in the future of libraries today
