The authors applied a 500 Hz short pure tone study of 40 Hz steady-state response (SSR) to 32 full-term newborns and 10 normal children aged 5 to 8 years. The 40 Hz SSR thresholds for newborns and children are 50 and 30 dBnHL, respectively. The latency of P_1 and N_1 waves decreased significantly with age, but the amplitudes increased significantly. No significant gender differences in latency and amplitude were observed. And with age, the 40 HzSSR became more stable, the repeatability of the test - repeated tests improved, and the incidence of _1-N_1 waves also increased. In children between 3 months and 6 years of age, 40-SSR-derived sources are considered due to the difference in Pa-ABR and Pb-Pa intervals
