青山绿水,幽远平和,徜徉此间,可以寻求内心的安宁,宜兴大觉寺就是这样一个地方。它始建于南宋咸淳年间,至今约七百多年,历代迭有兴替。后几经战乱,佛寺旧址无存。直至2005年,台湾佛光山创始人星云大师选址于西渚镇横山村王飞岭岕“云湖”之滨,捐资重建。现主要建筑有大雄宝殿、观音殿、美术馆、滴水坊、佛陀行化图、白塔、成佛大道、菩提广场、西净国际会议厅、东禅客堂等,是一处集中外佛教文化、教育、弘法、慈善、朝圣、观光为一体的佛教圣地,被尊为“佛光祖庭”。
