I’ve been teaching English for over fifteen years. I believe the most important requirement for students to learn English is to form some good learning habits.
1. Follow the teacher to read in class
At the beginning, speaking English is one of the most difficult problems. Therefore, the teacher should encourage the students to speak English boldly in class. Also, they should imitate their teacher’s pronunciation, intonation and repeat constantly.
2. Follow to write
In each class, the teacher asks the students to prepare an English scratch book. When they begin their ABC, they write down each word, each sentence or even each passage in their scratch book. While writing, they can follow to say. As time goes by, they can form a good learning habit. With the teacher’s reminding, they can write and say at the same time. Besides, their attention can be focused by doing this.
3. Take notes in class
Taking notes is one of the skills of learning English. However, many students don’t know how to act in English class at the beginning. So, the teacher should remind the kids of taking notes about the important points while listening. Thus, they can review what they learned after class. Also, the teacher should show them some secrets of taking notes such as shortening the long sentences Then, their note-taking speed will be increased day by day.
4. Do the workbook with pencils
In class, most students are used to writing with pens. But the disadvantage is that they can’t do the exercise once again. While using pencils, they can correct their mistake easily, and they can do their exercise once again by crossing out what they did previously with an eraser. In this way, words and sentences are consolidated by doing this. They can recall what they have learned easily.
5. Give marks to their homework
For the homework, the teacher can exchange their homework to correct. After the teachers’ comments on the homework, they correct every mistake and mark the workbook. Each time the students get their own workbook, they can know their marks and where they are wrong. Then, they will have a good knowledge of their language abilities and take actions to change their ways of learning.
6. Join in the conversations in class
So the teachers need more strategies to train the students’ speaking skills .The teacher can ask the students to say line by line until all the kids can say in class. If someone can’t wait and watch others’ talk, then they can imitate to say. Make sure that you don’t leave one kid to stand by.
All in all, the above six points are the necessary habits in my class. Of course, these habits are not enough for long-term teaching. So, the teachers need to explore more methods to cultivate the students’ good learning habits. With these good habits, students will finish the English tasks more efficiently, and English learning will become easier for the students as well.
