翻译俄罗斯著名作家季尔·布雷乔夫的科幻作品已有十多种。每当为译本写序,作者名字首次出现时,往往习惯地注明:(1934-)。可这次,在为又一本译作《外星地球村》作序时,我心情沉重地写下:(1934-2003)增添的阿拉伯数字,无情地确认了一位异国挚友生命的终结。通信十六年,眼看即将会面,不料……取出厚厚一叠珍藏的异国来信,不禁黯然神伤,思绪朝着往昔伸展。早在1987年,我着手翻译季尔·布雷乔夫的一部少儿科幻作品。原版书发现于上海图书馆,书中搏动着童心,闪烁着童趣,令我惊喜。于是,给作者去函。1988年2月10日,季尔·布雷乔夫回了一封热情洋溢的信:“您是一位如此坚强的上海人,得知您在翻译我的书,我感到欢悦……”
