2006年10月26日,国际奥委会授权新华社为2008年北京奥运会东道主通讯社,负责对北京奥运进行全方位报道,并为国内其他新闻媒体和机构提供中国运动员的报道。2007年9月12日,新华社正式开通北京奥运东道主通讯社官方网站(beliv-jing2008.news.cn),以便海内外读者了解北京奥运的筹办情况。①
On October 26, 2006, the IOC authorized Xinhua News Agency to be the hosting agency for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is responsible for providing comprehensive coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games and providing coverage of Chinese athletes to other domestic news media and institutions. On September 12, 2007, Xinhua News Agency officially opened the official website of Beijing Olympic host communication agency (beliv-jing2008.news.cn) so that readers at home and abroad can understand the preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games. ①
