In many blood vessels, peripheral vascular nerves cause sympathetic contractions when excited. This contractile response can be blocked by α-receptor antagonists. The authors prepared dog mesenteric artery strips suspended in Krebs-Henseleit’s bath, maintained at 37 ° C, and equilibrated with a mixture of 95% O 2 and 5% CO 2.
