山东省聊城市茌平县杜郎口中学是一所极偏远的农村普通中学,教师素质不高,生源素质较差,教学质量在全县23个学校中排倒数第一。1998年下半年开始课堂教学改革,到2003年开始出成果。在茌平县全师大会上得两块金牌,教学质量获全县第一名。由原来的全县倒数第一名,濒临撤并的烂摊子,一跃成为全县第一名,创作了令人难以想象的神话和奇迹。随即,杜郎口中学改革的成功和创造的奇迹在全国基础教育领域得到广泛的认同,刮起了强劲的杜郎口旋风。到目前为止,前去参观学习的已达40多万人次。
