I hope every frame I present will be a time machine. After many years of watching the audience, I can feel the changes of China in the 70s, 80s and 90s of the last century. I was a kid who grew up in Fenyang County, Shanxi Province. When I first started filming, I was called “a director from the private sector.” My father, who used to work in the county seat and was hit during the Cultural Revolution, was sent back to his hometown to teach Chinese for a long time in the countryside. Many relatives still live in the country until now - the background of such an agricultural society has brought me great influence. I have always been willing to recognize and cherish this. Later, many people asked me, what kind of opportunity is it? Let me be such a “grassroots” who wants to be a director? The question is complicated to answer. If you have to have a direct opportunity, that is, in 1990, I saw a 20-year-old movie, called “yellow land.”
