It has been proved difficult to interpret magnetographic data in low latitudes and errors have been made. Near the earth’s equatorial magnetic field is almost horizontal (less than 20 °), resulting in a pair of high and low magnetic anomalies. Its low magnetic anomalies lie directly above the magnetic body. Polarization filtering is often used to eliminate the effect of distortion on magnetic dip and magnetic declination so that high magnetic anomalies can be directly reduced to just above the magnetic body. Most polarization filtering is the convolution of a set of grid operator in the spatial domain with the gridded magnetometric data.
