1 Discovery In the spring of 1972, the present authors found 19 typical male sterile plants of the variety Polima planted in the rapeseed germplasm material plot in the experi-mental farm of Huazhong Agricultural University. At that time, many Brassica napus varieties and the fertile plants of Polima were used as pollinators to testcross the male sterile plants of Polima. In the autumn, 71 materials, including the seeds obtained from testcrosses and open pollination,were sown in the farm of Huazhong Argricultural University. In the spring of 1973, many partial male sterile and completely male sterile plants were found in these 71 populations. 1 Discovery In the spring of 1972, the present authors found 19 typical male sterile plants of the variety Polima planted in the rapeseed germplasm material plot in the experi-mental farm of Huazhong Agricultural University.
