Objective To observe the changes of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroid hormone in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to explore the clinical significance. Methods Eighty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected as the study group. Eighty non-diabetic patients who underwent physical examination in the same period were selected as the control group. The levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH in both groups were detected. At the same time, the Hb A1c in the study group was detected. The Hb A1c levels were grouped according to the level of Hb A1c. The differences in the levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH among the groups were compared. Results The levels of FT3, FT4 and TSH in study group were significantly lower than those in control group (P <0.05). There was a negative correlation between FT3 level and Hb A1c level in study group (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in FT4 and TSH between Hb A1c groups (P> 0.05). Conclusions The thyroid hormones and TSH levels in the study group are related to the disease and course of disease. Therefore, thyroid and TSH levels in patients with type 2 diabetes are monitored on a regular basis, which helps to monitor the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
